The 62+ acres upon which McDonald Artisan Farms sits has a rich history. This land was a land grant to James Ray in 1771 from King George of England. The house on the property is one of the oldest in Moore County built in 1772. Housed within the open pastures and wooded areas are Ray's Mill Creek and a plethora of wildlife habitats. The extreme eastern portion of the property is part of a nationally significant Natural Heritage Area known as Paint Hill due to its unusual plant and animal assemblages.
